A puzzling word
The Greek word translated daily is a puzzle. It doesn't appear anywhere in older Greek writing. The church father Origen already thought the Gospel writers had coined it themselves.
Does it mean bread for today, bread for tomorrow, or the bread we need? Scholars don't agree. But the thrust is clear: ask for enough, not for a stockpile.
Question for today
What do I really need today?
Prayer
Father, give me today what I need. No more, no less. And make me grateful for what I already have. Amen.
