Whose image?

Opponents wanted to trap Jesus with a question about taxes to Rome. If he said yes, he was a collaborator. If he said no, he was a rebel. He asked for a coin and whose image was on it. Caesar's.

Then give that coin to Caesar, he said. But give to God what is God's. And what bears the image of God? According to Genesis, human beings themselves. The coin is for Caesar. You belong to God.

Question for today

Do I give myself to God, or only what's left over?

Prayer

God, I bear your image. I give my duties to those they are owed to, but myself I give to you. Amen.
