Jesus dicit

Word 129 of 310Prayer

I tell you, even though he will not get up to provide for him because of his friendship, yet because of the man’s persistence, he will get up and give him as much as he needs.

A friend at midnight

Someone gets an unexpected visitor in the middle of the night and has no bread. He knocks at his neighbour's door. The neighbour is already in bed with his children. But because his friend keeps on asking, he gets up after all. Importunity means shameless persistence.

Jesus isn't saying God is an unwilling neighbour. The point is: if even that neighbour gets up, how much more God. Dare to pray shamelessly. You are not disturbing him.

Question for today

What do I dare to keep asking for, shamelessly?

Prayer

Father, I knock at your door, even in the middle of the night. Thank you that I am not disturbing you. Give me what I need. Amen.
