Do you see all these great buildings? Not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.

Not one stone upon another

A disciple was impressed by the temple. Look what manner of stones! Rightly so. Some stones of Herod's temple weighed hundreds of tonnes.

Jesus said nothing would remain of it. In the year 70 the temple was destroyed by the Romans. At the south-western corner of the Temple Mount great blocks still lie on the street, where they were thrown down then. What seemed built for ever turned out to be temporary.

Question for today

Which impressive things am I trusting in that are temporary too?

Prayer

Lord, everything people build passes away. Let me build on you, who remain. Amen.
