By the word of the Lord, we declare to you that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who have fallen asleep.

Comfort for those who grieve
The first letter to the Thessalonians is probably the oldest book of the New Testament, written around the year 50. The young church was worried. People had died. Had they now missed everything?
Paul answers with a word of the Lord. Those who have died miss nothing. Prevent here means go before. He closes with an instruction that still applies today: wherefore comfort one another with these words.
Question for today
Whom can I comfort today?
Prayer
Lord, I think of those I have lost. Thank you that they miss nothing. Comfort me, and make me a comforter for others. Amen.
