Someone beside you
The Greek word here is Paraclete: older translations say Comforter, newer ones Advocate. Literally: someone called to your side. A helper, an advocate, someone who stands by you.
Jesus promises that the Spirit will remind the disciples of everything he has said. The Gospels themselves were born from that remembering. What you are reading today was kept by that Spirit.
