Word 186 of 310Hope

Blessed are those servants whom the master finds on watch when he returns. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve and will have them recline at the table, and he himself will come and wait on them.

The master who serves

A story about servants waiting for their master to come home from a wedding, in the middle of the night. That is normal. But then something strange happens.

The master puts on an apron, has the servants sit at table and serves them himself. A world turned upside down. On the last evening Jesus would do exactly that: a towel round his waist, washing his disciples' feet.

Question for today

What would it feel like if God served me?

Prayer

Lord, you are the master who serves. Keep me awake and ready, and thank you for inviting me to your table. Amen.
