Blessed with empty hands
The Sermon on the Mount doesn't begin with a command, but with a blessing. And the first blessing is for the poor in spirit. People who know they have nothing to bring.
Notice the tense. Most of the Beatitudes contain a promise for later. Here it says: theirs is the kingdom. Already now. It doesn't begin with what you have, but with what you lack.
Question for today
What am I lacking today, and may God's kingdom begin right there?
Prayer
Lord, I come with empty hands. Not with achievements, but with what I lack. Thank you that your kingdom begins right there. Amen.
