Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me.

Laodicea: I stand at the door
Laodicea was a rich city. The church said: I am rich, and have need of nothing. Christ calls it lukewarm. Many interpreters point to the water: nearby Hierapolis had hot springs, Colossae cold water, and Laodicea received lukewarm water through an aqueduct.
And then this tender image. Christ stands at the door and knocks. He doesn't break in. He waits for you to open. The painter Holman Hunt made a famous painting of it, The Light of the World, and gave the door no handle on the outside. It can only be opened from within.
Question for today
Do I hear him knocking, and do I open?
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I hear you knocking. I open the door. Come in and eat with me. Amen.
