As a thief
The image of the thief in the night comes up more often. Jesus used it himself in the Gospels, and Paul in his letter to the Thessalonians. A thief doesn't announce himself.
It isn't a threat, but a call. Live in such a way that you aren't caught off guard. Not in fear, but in wakeful expectation. Whoever is ready needn't be afraid of an unexpected visitor.

Am I living so that I am ready when he comes?

Lord, you come unexpectedly. Make me awake and ready, not out of fear, but out of longing for you. Amen.
