Keep knocking

Ask, seek, knock. In Greek these verbs are in a form that points to something ongoing. You could translate: keep asking, keep seeking, keep knocking.

According to Jesus, prayer is not a vending machine you put something into once. It is a relationship you keep coming back to. Straight after this he compares God to a father who won't give his child a stone when it asks for bread.

Question for today

What have I stopped asking for?

Prayer

Father, I sometimes give up too soon. Give me the patience to keep asking, and the trust that you give good things, even when they differ from what I asked. Amen.
