Where murder begins

The law said: thou shalt not kill. Jesus goes a layer deeper. Murder doesn't begin with the knife, but with the anger in your heart and the insults in your mouth.

To be honest: the words without a cause are not in the oldest manuscripts. They were probably added later, perhaps to soften the saying a little. Without those words Jesus is even sharper. What matters to him is your heart.

Question for today

Who am I angry with, and what is it doing to my heart?

Prayer

Lord, you see my anger, even the anger I don't express. Heal my heart before it does damage. Amen.
