John has no prayer struggle in Gethsemane. But here, a few days earlier, Jesus says: now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.
And then this promise. On the cross, lifted up, he will draw everyone to himself. Not by power or force, but by love that gives itself completely.
