Long ago you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment, and like clothing you will change them. But you remain the same, and your years will never end.
A prayer of a sufferer to God the Creator. Hebrews says without hesitation that these words are about the Son: he laid the foundation of the earth and he remains the same. That fits the beginning of Hebrews and of John: through the Son God made the world (Hebrews 1:2; John 1:3). At the end of the same letter it says: Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
