The nations rise up against the LORD and his anointed. God says to his king: 'You are my Son; today I have become your Father.'
Originally a coronation psalm for a king from David's house. 'Anointed' is mashiach in Hebrew, where our word Messiah comes from; in Greek, christos. At Jesus' baptism a voice from heaven echoes this verse: 'Thou art my beloved Son.'
