In Proverbs, Wisdom speaks as a person: the LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. When he prepared the heavens, I was there, as one brought up with him, daily his delight.

In Proverbs, Wisdom is a poetic personification of God's wisdom. Jewish writers just before Jesus developed the image further, for instance in Sirach. The first Christians recognised Christ in it: 'In the beginning was the Word' echoes the Wisdom that was with God before creation, and Paul calls Christ 'the wisdom of God'. A warning from history: in the fourth century Arius used verse 22, which in the Greek translation read 'the LORD created me', to argue that the Son was created. The Council of Nicaea in 325 rejected that. How far you may take this image is itself an old debate.
