I bring praise to their lips: peace, peace to those far and near, says the LORD, and I will heal them.
In Isaiah this is about exiles, far away and at home. Paul reads it as the work of Christ: he came and preached peace to the Gentiles, who were far off, and to the Jews, who were near, and broke down the wall between them. On Pentecost Peter says the promise of the Spirit is for 'all that are afar off'.
