Turn to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth, for I am God and there is no other. By myself I have sworn: every knee will bow before me, every tongue will swear allegiance.
One of the most emphatic texts about the one God of Israel: I am God, and there is none else. Paul quotes it around the year 60 in a letter, in a hymn about Christ that may be one of the oldest Christian hymns. It says that God therefore highly exalted him. At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. What in Isaiah belongs to God alone is here given to Jesus. Scholars see this as one of the strongest signs that the very first Christians, themselves Jews who believed in one God, worshipped Jesus together with God from very early on.
