You have ascended on high, you have led captives away, you have received gifts from men.
Paul reads this as the ascension, and says 'gave gifts unto men' instead of 'received gifts for men'. That reading also existed in Jewish interpretation, in the Targum. According to Ephesians 4 those gifts are apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers: a text much used in Pentecostal and charismatic churches.
